Mount Marion Mining Camp

Project Information

Background

The Mt Marion lithium operation is located 40km southwest of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Mineral Resources manages all mining activities at Mt Marion, including a spodumene concentrate processing plant with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes. A growing workforce over 800 team members keep the daily operations running smoothly.

Challenge

The camp was located very close to the mining work area and the camp manager was receiving complaints that the noise was travelling and keeping people awake. This needed to rectified quickly as the staff need a comfortable sleep to ensure they’re a fit for work and to keep the mine operating. 

Solution

Rapid Exploration were the construction team and installed a perimeter fence which then had soundproof mats attached to reduce the noise. This solution was acceptable however the fence was being blown over in strong winds. JMD engineering designed an appropriate solution for the wind region rating and specified the quantity and hold down required. Earth Anchor Systems installed 130 anchors along either side of the perimeter fence, these were proof tested to the design load of 2.25T and a 2.5T ratchet straps to secure the fence and the footings.
